Mamakan x Mahota. Art + Food Pop-up

Mahota Commune, May 12, 2017

Does 'eating art' sound like a concept that’s out of this world? The pop-up by Mamakan in Mahota Commune on 12 May 2017 was an unusual art experience that combined food and art.

Visiting participants were thrilled to taste Masamia Singapura Jam from the GastroGeography exhibitions and learnt that such delicious jam could be created using berries that are easily found on roadsides around our island. The aim of Mamakan’s work is to open our eyes and realise that food is everywhere, we just need to look for it.

Learning about Singapore's history and heritage through discovering edible plants touched the hearts of many who came. Just like Mamakan’s philosophy that focuses on the connection of food with places and people through stories, Mahota Commune was created based on the concept to showcase the stories behind the food we eat and buy, and the history and culture of the growers and producers, and in so doing, foster greater connection and passion for good food and mindful consumption.
