Art of Foraging 2025/26: Mamakan x Velskov

Art of Foraging is conceived by Mamakan as a living installation — a participatory extension of her botanical art practice into the forest itself. Here, the native landscape becomes both site and medium, and the act of foraging is transformed into an aesthetic and ecological inquiry.

Rather than encountering her work within the framed space of galleries, participants are invited to step inside the artwork itself — through touch, scent, taste, and embodied presence. Each gathering unfolds as an ephemeral composition, co-created with the forest, the shifting seasons, and the sensorial encounters of those who take part.

Mamakan’s earlier works — from large-scale botanical installations to sensorial storytelling projects — have consistently explored the entanglements between humans and plants. Rooted in her Nordic heritage and expanded through her life in the Asia-Pacific, her practice interlaces myth, memory, and ecology into immersive experiences. Art of Foraging continues this trajectory, situating knowledge-sharing, ecological intimacy, and collective ritual as artistic gestures in their own right.

The work resists permanence: it is temporal, site-specific, and renewed with every group that gathers at Velskov. In this way, Art of Foraging blurs the boundaries between art, ecology, and lived ritual — inviting participants to inhabit an artwork rather than merely observe it.
